Kitchen Inspiration

Thinking about a new kitchen but don't know where to start? Barton Bath + Floor has compiled the top kitchen ideas and advice into a guide for renovating a kitchen.

Your Kitchen Renovation Plan

Kitchens are one of the most costly types of renovation and require careful planning as a result.
  1. Hire a contractor or DIY
Hiring a professional contractor brings expertise to a project saving time and money.

  2. Prepare your home
Preparation comes in many forms.  Before packing up and storing the current kitchen for construction to take place consider setting up a temporary kitchen space and eating plan for the duration of the project. Next remove cabinet doors and drawers, backsplash, as well as countertops and finally lower cabinets as well as appliances.

  3. Kitchen Demolition
Before the demo, prepare for dust, cover flooring, set up a to keep organized and have a garbage plan. Keeping the demolition DIY will help the budget.

  4. Install Plumbing, Wiring, and HVAC Rough-In (including plumbing rough-in, wiring rough-in, HVAC rough-in)
During the rough in contractors lay out basic lines before they put together permanent and final connections. This is an important yet potentially messy step and helps to have all working together not separately.

  5. Update Electrical and Lighting
Upgrade the fixtures most used and incorporate recessed lighting for that modern feel.

  6. Add Drywall, Finish Walls and Ceilings & Paint
The process isn’t complicated. Helpful tools include a small and larger drywall knife as well as a swivel-head pole sander—to finish drywall. Next cover fill joints and screw heads then apply paper tape to seal seams. Don’t forget about taping inside and outside corners and sanding down.

  7. Install Flooring
Look for more resilient flooring to stand up to heavy foot traffic, stains and spills. Porcelain tile, vinyl, and properly finished hardwood will resist moisture and are easier to clean. Note that more expensive flooring should be done after cabinetry installation.

  8. Kitchen Structural Build-Out
Structural changes include new doorways, walls and windows.

  9. Install Cabinets & Countertops
New cabinetry and countertop does wonders for décor. However, front loading thoroughness ensures a professional-looking installation. Be sure to carefully measure, shim and securely fasten components with care. Prep your walls with a cleaner, fix wall imperfections and install a ledger board to provide initial support before the adhesive cures.

  10. Apply Backsplash
backsplash tile not only makes cleaning easy, they also add a gorgeous visual element to your kitchen or bath design. There are many options for backsplash include mosaics with a mesh backing or peel-and-stick tiles for easier installation. Make sure to pre-lay tile. The starting point is the most viewable part of the wall. Work way outward and upward. Tile cutters, nippers and a wet tile saw will cut tiles to properly fit the backsplash. Once mortar is prepped

  11. Install Appliances
Dust off your kitchen and wheel back your old appliances or upgrade to some smart options.

  12. Inspection & Completion
Have installation of plumbing, electric and HVAC systems as well as construction inspected to ensure functionality.
